Ils le sont, et ne le sont pas. Madagascar abrite environ dix-huit groupes ethniques reconnus, chacun avec son terroir, son histoire, son dialecte et ses coutumes \u2014 et pourtant tous parlent des versions d&rsquo;une m\u00eame langue et partagent quelques croyances profondes. Comprendre les dix-huit est le moyen le plus rapide de comprendre pourquoi l&rsquo;\u00eele semble diff\u00e9rente dans chaque r\u00e9gion travers\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<h2>Une \u00eele, dix-huit peuples<\/h2>\n<p>Le chiffre de <strong>dix-huit<\/strong> fut fix\u00e9 autour de l&rsquo;ind\u00e9pendance et c&rsquo;est celui qu&#8217;emploient les Malgaches eux-m\u00eames, m\u00eame si les anthropologues notent que les fronti\u00e8res sont autant historiques et politiques qu&rsquo;ethniques \u2014 certaines sources en comptent vingt. Les groupes se form\u00e8rent \u00e0 mesure que diff\u00e9rentes vagues de colons (austron\u00e9siens, est-africains, arabes) et diff\u00e9rents royaumes s&rsquo;enracinaient dans des paysages vari\u00e9s, de la for\u00eat humide au d\u00e9sert \u00e9pineux. Les <strong>Merina<\/strong>, environ un quart de tous les Malgaches, b\u00e2tirent le royaume qui unifia l&rsquo;\u00eele depuis <a href=\"https:\/\/voyagiste-madagascar.com\/best-central-highlands-madagascar-2026\/\">Antananarivo<\/a>. Les <strong>Betsileo<\/strong>, au sud, sont de c\u00e9l\u00e8bres riziculteurs en terrasses et travailleurs du bois. Les <strong>Sihanaka<\/strong> vivent autour des marais du lac Alaotra, le grenier \u00e0 riz de l&rsquo;\u00eele. La culture des hautes terres penche vers l&rsquo;austron\u00e9sien \u2014 rizi\u00e8res en terrasses, hauts tombeaux familiaux, c\u00e9r\u00e9monie du <em>famadihana<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2>Les peuples c\u00f4tiers (c\u00f4tiers)<\/h2>\n<p>La plupart des dix-huit vivent le long des c\u00f4tes et portent une empreinte africaine et arabe plus forte. Parmi eux : les <strong>Betsimisaraka<\/strong> de l&rsquo;est (deuxi\u00e8me groupe) ; les <strong>Sakalava<\/strong> de l&rsquo;ouest, jadis un puissant royaume ; les <strong>Bara<\/strong> \u00e9leveurs de b\u0153ufs du sud ; les <strong>Antandroy<\/strong> et <strong>Mahafaly<\/strong> de l&rsquo;extr\u00eame sud aride, connus pour leurs tombeaux spectaculaires ; les <strong>Vezo<\/strong> marins du sud-ouest ; les <strong>Antaimoro<\/strong> du sud-est, gardiens des manuscrits <em>sorabe<\/em> en \u00e9criture arabe ; et les <strong>Antakarana<\/strong>, <strong>Antaifasy<\/strong>, <strong>Antaisaka<\/strong>, <strong>Antanosy<\/strong>, <strong>Antambahoaka<\/strong>, <strong>Bezanozano<\/strong>, <strong>Tanala<\/strong> (\u00ab peuple de la for\u00eat \u00bb) et <strong>Tsimihety<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>La fracture qui compte encore<\/h2>\n<p>La division qui fa\u00e7onne la politique moderne n&rsquo;est pas vraiment celle de dix-huit groupes mais de deux blocs : <strong>hauts-plateaux<\/strong> et <strong>c\u00f4tiers<\/strong>. Le royaume dirig\u00e9 par les Merina, puis les administrations suivantes, concentr\u00e8rent le pouvoir dans les hautes terres, et le sentiment des peuples c\u00f4tiers d&rsquo;\u00eatre gouvern\u00e9s depuis Antananarivo r\u00e9sonne depuis dans la politique malgache.
