Dans la tradition malgache, les morts ne s&rsquo;en vont pas. Ils deviennent les <strong>razana<\/strong>, les ancetres, et restent les membres les plus puissants et respectes de la famille : consultes, nourris, craints et aimes. Plus qu&rsquo;aucun roi ou gouvernement, ce sont les razana qui gouvernent discretement la vie malgache depuis des siecles. Ils sont aussi la raison de bien des <a href=\"https:\/\/voyagiste-madagascar.com\/fady-the-invisible-rules-of-malagasy-life\/\">fady, les tabous<\/a>, que rencontrera un voyageur.<\/p>\n<h2>Les intermediaires avec Dieu<\/h2>\n<p>Dans la croyance traditionnelle, les razana ne sont pas adores comme des dieux. Ils sont des <strong>intermediaires<\/strong> : le lien entre les vivants et <strong>Zanahary<\/strong> (aussi appele Andriamanitra), le createur lointain. Les ancetres sont proches, connaissables et presents ; Dieu est vaste et distant. Aussi, quand une famille a besoin de benediction, de protection ou de conseil, elle se tourne d&rsquo;abord vers ses propres morts, confiante qu&rsquo;ils porteront la demande vers le haut. Les razana demeurent, au sens propre, des membres actifs du foyer \u2014 presents dans la memoire et dans la vie quotidienne.<\/p>\n<h2>Comment on honore les ancetres<\/h2>\n<p>Le respect des razana est tisse dans les gestes ordinaires. Quand on ouvre une bouteille de rhum neuve, la premiere gorgee est souvent versee aux ancetres \u2014 frequemment vers le <strong>coin nord-est<\/strong> de la maison, la direction sacree et ancestrale dans la construction traditionnelle malgache. Les grandes decisions \u2014 un mariage, un demenagement, un voyage \u2014 peuvent etre soumises aux ancetres. Et leur volonte est inscrite dans les <strong>fady<\/strong>, les tabous qu&rsquo;un aieul a etablis et que les vivants respectent longtemps apres sa mort, croyant que les ancetres honores interviennent pour eux et que les ancetres offenses retirent leur protection.<\/p>\n<h2>Garder les morts dans la famille<\/h2>\n<p>Nulle part le lien n&rsquo;est plus clair que dans le rite le plus celebre des hautes terres, le <strong>famadihana<\/strong> ou \u00ab retournement des os \u00bb. Chez les Merina et les Betsileo, les familles exhument periodiquement leurs morts, les reemmaillotent de <a href=\"https:\/\/voyagiste-madagascar.com\/lamba-cloth-madagascar-everyday-to-ancestors\/\">linceuls de soie (lamba)<\/a> frais, dansent avec eux, leur parlent, puis les replacent dans le tombeau. Cela surprend les etrangers, mais sa logique est tendre : garder les razana presents, entoures de soins, et membres de la famille vivante. Le tombeau, souvent plus imposant que la maison familiale, est la demeure des ancetres \u2014 et une declaration de ce qu&rsquo;est un lignage.<\/p>\n<h2>Pourquoi cela compte aujourd&rsquo;hui<\/h2>\n<p>Le respect des ancetres n&rsquo;est pas une piece de musee. Il vit aux cotes du christianisme et de l&rsquo;islam \u2014 la plupart des Malgaches ne voient aucune contradiction entre l&rsquo;eglise le dimanche et l&rsquo;hommage aux razana \u2014 et il faconne encore la facon dont les familles decident, batissent, pleurent et celebrent.
